Images of the carcass of a pilot whale that was “released” from The Cove over a month ago. Pilot whales live in pods - a large family of whales. At The Cove, the Taiji Fishermen will sometimes allow a whale or two to “return to the wild” as they slaughter the remainder of the pod. This is the equivalent of murderers allowing you to go home as they slaughter your mother, father, brothers, sisters, cousins, et al.
Pilot whales are deeply thoughtful creatures, much like humans, and witnessing the death of their entire families are traumatizing events. When released without their family, pilot whales often lack the social structure to be able to continue living a peaceful life. Many of them do not survive the event. This one of the infinite reasons the Taiji Fishermen must be stopped.
